Kairosis Center is a new addition to the Moscone convention center complex in San Francisco, that blurs the boundaries between live, work, and convention program through the dilation of physical/digital transitions. The ground floor winds a single-loaded corridor through an oscillating spectrum of flexible digital spaces (coworking, incubator, lounge areas) and highly programmed, intensely physical spaces (wood shop, restaurant, recording studio, etc.). A thickened wall comprised of structure, storage, and equipment acts as the mediating element, expanding and contracting to define the different environments of the building. The upper two floors transition from long-term to short-term living, creating different cycles of activity and duration within the inherently fluctuating space of a convention center.
